I am currently working at ConsenSys, a blockchain software technology startup in Dubai, but came here to work for Strategy& last year, a management consulting company. I think Arabic did help prepare me as I used to work with a lot of Middle Eastern clients, and Arabic certainly helped me in the recruiting process when I expressed why I wanted to work in the Dubai office.
My most rewarding experience was definitely studying abroad – I spent time in Damascus and found it to be a life changing experience, in addition to an educational one. I would definitely put traveling in the region at the top of the bucket list, as I spent time in Lebanon and Jordan as well. I think a lot of students benefited from summer programs so perhaps taking one of these in freshman or sophomore summer could be very beneficial.
